Can Mothers Be Traders? Part Two…

The remarks made by hedge-fund billionaire Paul Tudor Jones about how “babies are focus-killers” and more has resulted in thousands of twitter responses, dozens of articles, TV segments and heaven knows how many conversations about what one thinks mothers can and cannot do in the workplace.

I was compelled to write a response on LinkedIn which has been viewed over 10,000 times (thank you) and resulted in more media requests than we ( with co author Susan Solovay) could handle.

Can Mothers Be Traders?

According to Paul Tudor Jones, the billionaire hedge fund manager, they cannot. We find this statement both disturbing and perplexing since we are women whose life experience would suggest otherwise, and we spend much of our time encouraging young women to pursue careers in finance generally and trading in particular.

Reflections On Motherhood

I planned on doing my best blog entry yet! On the top of my ten page ‘to do’ list it says in capital letters BLOG FOR MAY 12 – RELFECTIONS ON 16 YEARS MOTHERHOOD. Well it’s May 11 and I am just sitting down to do this. What got in my way of accomplishing this important goal? Motherhood.

Sheryl Sandberg’s new book, “Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead,” the part feminist manifesto, part how-to career guide that hit shelves this past week has got everyone talking. It seems the world – or at least 20 to 40-year-old career minded women in the U.S. – is hungry for this kind of advice.

I too went through most of my professional life with the idea that if I did not have a great career, a big bank account, a successful husband, perfect kids, nice house, size 6 body (I am exhausted just typing this list) I was not going to be happy.

Greg Smith and Goldman Sachs - The Story Continues…

A story can reflect a sense of idealism about what should be. And, when the story is about Goldman Sachs, a company the world can’t seem stop talking about, it draws attention. True or not, fact or fiction, Mr. Smith’s story now lives forever in the pages of The New York Times and for many people, especially those who have not worked with or for Goldman, it might become their point of reference.

“Why I Left Goldman Sachs” (Version Two)

I don’t know the author Greg Smith, nor do I know anyone who knows him personally. I do know a lot of people who have worked, and do work, at Goldman Sachs. I am a former partner (left in 2002), as is my husband Greg (left in 2000), and I have many close friends who are or have been partners as well. Needless to say, there has been a flurry of emails and phone calls regarding what Mr. Smith has said so very publicly. I also went online and read many of the articles that have been written in response. Talk about a diversity of opinions!

“No Excuses - 9 Ways Women Can Change How We Think About Power” By Gloria Feldt

“It is about women and power” said Gloria Feldt in her email to ask me if I would be interested in being interviewed for her upcoming book. “Heck yes” was my answer. When she told me more about what the book would be about I could not be more excited to participate. My quote from the book, and check out a whole lot more below, “money is a power tool, and women need to learn to use it as one!”
